Final Blog Assignment.... What I have learned

Coming into this class this semester I knew little about writing. On account of this I learned a lot this semester.

I learned:
· How to make more effective sentences. How to look for words that basically say the same things (a close, personal friends… the general public, etc.) and cut them out. Also I learned how to look for blah phrases and find better words, or fewer words, to say the same thing.
· How to use outside information, or research, to make a story more effective. Along with this I learned how to use different stories to help make a similar story more effective.
· How to cut out some of the detail and trust the reader
· How to structure dialogue in a story
· How to really analyze a story for its research, issues, morals, conflicts, characters, and how it ties everything together
In the beginning I didn’t really understand the point to everything that we did in class, but after taking it seriously and listening to the purpose I understood, and found it helped me with my own writing. I feel I have a much better concept of writing. I still have a long way to go with my writing, but I feel I have a lot more tools to help make it more effective.

Sports and Betting

The sports world and the betting world consistently collide. Sports and Betting have coincided since the early days when the only sports around were horse racing and lacrosse.

Betting can better your sports experience but for the most part kills it. When people have money on a game they enjoy the win twice as much. However, when their team loses they are more upset and angry then they would have been. Not only are they upset that their team lost but now they are upset because they lost their money as well.

I have seen betting mostly ruin sports for people because most people, especially amateur betters, lose more then they win. I have personally seen how bad betting can hurt not only a persons love of sports but the person themselves, because they lost so much money.

I think people should think twice before placing bets, think about the pure enjoyment you are taking away from the game by putting your money on the line. Let sports be sports, it has enough competitiveness in it, without betting.

Soo little time Soo Much Stress

With a week and a half left of classes and one week of finals this semester is over. I must say I am extremely happy that in less then 3 weeks there will be no more papers, homework, test, etc. for a good month plus. It is actually this thought in itself that keeps me going.

With these last few classes in sight there is also a great stress added. There is so much to be done in what seems to be so little time. I think this is by far the more stressful time in the semester. Which with the mindset that sets in during this time doesn't seem appropriate.

Along with as much as there is to do and the small amount of time to do it in comes the most intense procrastination and laziness of the year. Unfortunately these things all come at the same time making this part of the semester intolerable. I have so much work to do, and I cause myself even more stress because I cannot convince myself to do it.

A little advice to all: 3 more weeks to freedom. Get it done and put it behind you!

What happen to Thanksgiving?

We haven't even celebrated Thanksgiving yet and already the Christmas music and decorations have come out. Every year people skip right from Halloween to Christmas. People acknowledge Thanksgiving by having their traditional feasts but yet it is only for that one day.

Christmas seems to be celebrated and recognized throughout November and December, as if no other holiday during this time is worth anything. I just think it is ridiculous that people do not give Thanksgiving the respect that it deserves. It is the one holiday that people almost seem to skip over, like if we did not have it one year people might not even notice because they are too busy putting up their Christmas lights.

People say we go through life to fast, well that's because we skip from one thing to the next, and we forget to slow down and see what the day we are in brings. SLOW DOWN PEOPLE!

Grey's Anatomy

I am a huge Grey's Anatomy fan. I have seen every episode and some more then once. The first three seasons were full of action, drama, and suspense. I would never want to miss an episode. If there was ever a time I would not actually be around to watch it I would tape it and watch it as soon as I had the time. This year, this season, however is not the same. Two of the main characters have left the show and it has had a great impact. The medical stories are still exciting and new but the love stories, the family stories, the friendships... it's just not the same. I never thought it could happen but it is actually getting to the point where I could miss an episode and not feel as if I missed anything. I will continue to watch it though in hopes that the hype comes back and it turns back into the great show it once was.

Almost over!

I was just thinking about it today. We only have about a month left before this semester is over!!! We have next week and then Monday and Tuesday of the following week. Then Thanksgiving break. Followed by two more weeks and finals and its over! No more school for a while! Now if that doesn't get you motivated I just don't know what will.

So hang in there everyone, we are almost done!

ESPN.. what dont they have

ESPN has everything now. It doesn't matter how "sport-like" it may seem. I understand seeing football, basketball, one in while soccer, baseball, but it's still taking me sometime to get used to seeing poker. I mean the World Series of poker, its a card game, doesn't really seem like a sport, but I guess it falls into the requirements of what makes a sport. Pretty much everything qualifies as a sport now a day.

Now I'm just waiting for the day they have beer pong on ESPN, and it seems at this rate it's possible. There are competitions I just don't know if drunkenness would be good for ESPN's image. Having a bunch of people on T.V. falling over and acting crazy might not be the best for a respected sports broadcasting show. I'm not gonna lie though I would watch it!
